Ken Johnson is a multi-hyphenate (writer-producer-director) well known for TV series like The Incredible Hulk, V, Alien Nation and this little gem called Cliffhangers. He developed this at Universal TV around the time when the Hardy Boys-Nancy Drew Mysteries were in production. Many producers were looking at this "multi-title" genre. Basically, what it meant was that multiple series would fill a single time slot in the weekly schedule.
With Cliffhangers, Johnson meant to bring THREE series to the air: Kill Susan Williams, The Secret Empire and The Curse of Dracula. Each week would present a piece of the ongoing story that would end on a dramatic moment, thus the title Cliffhangers.
Now, except for small clips on YouTube, the series has been long forgotten.
Here is Kenneth Johnson's "concept" script, which is just another way of saying it's a pilot. In it, he drops us several chapters into each story, then leaves us on a cliffhanger wanting to know what happens next.
Amazing piece of TV history. I great addition to any script library.
